Welcome Back to School!

We have had two great days of school. Please be patient as our district desperately needs bus drivers.  Because of that  need, bus routes are taking a little longer than expected, and many more parents are driving their students to school, which causes delays in the car rider line.  We are sure that all these little wrinkles will be worked out soon.

Polk County Public Schools  recently posted this:

The school district continues to experience a shortage of bus drivers. Although the school district is actively recruiting and training drivers, bus delays are expected during the first few weeks of school.
For the first few weeks of school, parents are encouraged to transport their children to and from school if possible. The first day of school is Monday, August 13th.
Parents may find current bus delay information by visiting polk-fl.net and searching for keyword “bus delays.”
Those interested in becoming bus drivers or bus attendants should visit polk-fl.net/employment or call 863-534-7300 or 863-534-7298.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. While we are short-staffed, we are working hard to provide safe, reliable transportation for our students.

From Polk County Public Schools:

Dear families,

We hope you’ve been enjoying your summer, and we look forward to students returning for the first day of school on Monday, Aug. 13.

Here are a few important reminders:

Polk County Public Schools will NOT be imposing a districtwide ban on backpacks and lunchboxes, and will NOT require clear backpacks or lunchboxes for the 2018-19 school year.

However, individual schools can impose restrictions on backpacks and lunchboxes. Please check with your child’s school to see if any restrictions are in place for the upcoming school year.

Please be advised that trench coats are prohibited districtwide this year.

Hooded sweatshirts are acceptable, but hoods may not be worn during school hours.

Student identification badges will be provided to students in grades 6 – 12 to ensure the safety and security of students and staff. Students must wear these ID badges at all times around the neck when on school grounds.

Again, we hope you enjoy the rest of your summer, and we look forward to students returning for the first day of school on Monday, Aug. 13.

Thank you.

Estimadas familias,
