Updated Information From Polk County Public Schools

(Oct. 10, 2018)

Volunteer Background Check Fee to Remain at $25 Through End of 2018

The Polk County School Board has decided that the fee to cover volunteers’ background checks, as well as their badge and handbook, will remain $25 through the end of the calendar year.

Polk County Public Schools will be using more extensive volunteer background checks as part of our security measures to protect students and staff. The district will incur an additional charge for the statewide and national background checks.

However, through the end of 2018, the cost to volunteers will remain $25. We are exploring other funding sources to help offset the cost of background screening for volunteers on an ongoing basis. More information will follow.

Thanks A Million, Books-A-Million

This summer, our local Books-A-Million, located in Posner Park, had a book drive for our school.  This week, we picked up 9 boxes of books, over 250 brand new books for our media center.  We are so, so thankful to Books-A-Million for choosing our school and helping us.  Every book will get a special sticker that reminds the students that this book was a gift to our school. We have discovered that many of the books have a sticker from the person who purchased the book for us.  We are so excited to get these books into the hands of our students.   Please, help us support our local businesses that help us.

Book Fair

Next week is our Book Fair!  Our Book Fair will be open all next week and during Open House.  The Scholastic Book Fair helps get books into the hands of our students AND helps us put more books and supplies into our school media center.  You can shop ONLINE at our Book Fair and you can get a sneak peek at the books here: http://www.scholastic.com/bf/citrusridgeacivicsacademy1

New this year:  you can set up an eWallet for your child – an electronic payment that allows you to pay at home and the students to choose the books they want.  No money is carried from home to school! There is a video you can watch about it on our home page!

Welcome Back to School!

We have had two great days of school. Please be patient as our district desperately needs bus drivers.  Because of that  need, bus routes are taking a little longer than expected, and many more parents are driving their students to school, which causes delays in the car rider line.  We are sure that all these little wrinkles will be worked out soon.

Polk County Public Schools  recently posted this:

The school district continues to experience a shortage of bus drivers. Although the school district is actively recruiting and training drivers, bus delays are expected during the first few weeks of school.
For the first few weeks of school, parents are encouraged to transport their children to and from school if possible. The first day of school is Monday, August 13th.
Parents may find current bus delay information by visiting polk-fl.net and searching for keyword “bus delays.”
Those interested in becoming bus drivers or bus attendants should visit polk-fl.net/employment or call 863-534-7300 or 863-534-7298.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. While we are short-staffed, we are working hard to provide safe, reliable transportation for our students.
